2026 Superintendent of the Year
Dr. Wayne Kindle
Yankton School District
Dr. Kindle has devoted more than 37 years to public education, serving as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. He has served as superintendent of the Yankton School District for the past 13 years. As Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kindle is a thoughtful, student‑centered leader whose decisions are consistently grounded in what is best for students. He has expanded innovative learning opportunities through the development of a robust Career and Technical Education program and the establishment of a high‑quality early learning center, creating meaningful and lasting impact for students and families. As President of the South Dakota School Superintendents Association, Dr. Kindle has elevated the voice of superintendents across the state and is widely respected for his integrity, professionalism, and mentorship.
