Selection=20 Criteria for Outstanding School Superintendent Award

1. Every = member of the=20 South Dakota School Superintendents Association shall be eligible for=20 nomination. Each candidate remains on the list for three years if not = selected.=20

2. Nominations = shall be=20 based on local school leadership, involvement in state and national = educational=20 activities, and contributions to the South Dakota School Superintendents = Association, School Administrators of South Dakota, and the American = Association=20 of School Administrators.

3. Nominations = shall be=20 submitted to the secretary of SDSSA by a regional district committee of = the=20 SDSSA. All nominations shall be in writing and shall include the = nominee's=20 professional activities in the areas of criteria used for selection (see = above).=20

4. Nominations = shall be=20 in the hands of the secretary of SDSSA prior to April 1 of the year of = the=20 selection.

5. Three = candidates will=20 be chosen by the Executive Committee. Executive Committee members are = exempt=20 from consideration while serving.

6. Final = selection will=20 be completed by a group of past award winners who are chosen by the = Executive=20 Committee.

7. The = Outstanding=20 School Superintendent Award will be presented to the recipient during = the annual=20 summer conference each year.

8. The = secretary of=20 SDSSA shall forward the name of the award winner to the executive = director of=20 the School Administrators of South Dakota by July = 1.

9. The chosen=20 superintendent is required to complete and submit the application for=20 consideration for the National Award.

10. After = school begins,=20 in the fall, the president of SDSSA and executive director of SASD will = host a=20 reception in the recipient's home town.

Selection=20 Criteria for Distinguished Service Award

Nominees either must = have retired=20 from the school superintendency in South Dakota

in previous years or = must be=20 planning to retire in the calendar year of the = award.

Nominees must have = been an active=20 member of the South Dakota School Superintendents Association during = their=20 career.

Nominations must be = submitted=20 either by a current member of SDSSA or by a regional group of=20 superintendents.

All nominations must = be submitted=20 on the official nomination form.

Nominations must be = received by=20 the secretary of SDSSA no later than April 1.

The winner will be = selected by=20 the Executive Committee of SDSSA and will be announced during the annual = convention of the Association in July. =20 The recipient will receive a special plaque in recognition of the = award.

Nominations received=20 will be kept active for a period of three (3) years. =
