2010 Spring Conference

By SDASBO - Wednesday, April 07, 2010 - View Full Newsletter

The SDASBO Spring Conference Agenda & Registration Form was distributed to the membership courtesy of Bill Lynch on Friday, March 26th.   If you did not receive that email, you are not on his distribution list please contact him at blynch@asbsd.org to be added.

You should have received an email from 'noreply@sdasbo.com' on Wednesday, April 7th between 8:30 - 9:00 pm introducing the new membership/event management software.   If you did NOT receive that message, ask your IT person to check the SPAM folder on your email server.   I copied the message and sent it out via the Newspad as well (shortly thereafter) to be sure the message got out.  If you received both messages, I apologize for the duplication.  When we get all the 'bugs' worked out, we'll stop sending messages via the Newspad.

To download a PDF of the Spring Conference Agenda and Registration Form, click here, or download them from the 'Conference Info' section of our website at www.sdasbo.com, not the 'Archive' section as I mistakenly noted in the previous email.

We are again offering a pre-conference Microsoft Excel Workshop on Tuesday, April 27th.    From 12:30 - 2:30, two sessions of Excel 2003 will be offered in Amphitheater I (Intermediate/Advanced) and Amphitheater II (Beginners).   From 3:00 - 5:00, two sessions of Excel 2007 will be offered in the same format.   Cost for the pre-conference workshop is $15 per session.   You may register for more than one session if you wish to see both versions of Excel.   To register, click here using our new event management software.   Your default login is your email address for both the Username and Password.   Be sure to login BEFORE you try to register for any of the workshops as the data will be pre-populated for you.   Follow the on-screen instructions.   If you have any questions or problems with registration, please email jbietz@ysd.k12.sd.us.

Please bring payment for the pre-conference workshop with you on the 27th.   Also, please bring a laptop.   If you have Excel 2003 on your laptop, you may wish to sit in on the 2007 late session if you are planning to upgrade in the future.   If you already have Excel 2007, you are welcome to come to the early session and watch/listen, but we will not be jumping back and forth between versions in an effort to maximize our time.

The 2010 Spring Conference offers lots of relevant and timely information.  We will also be honoring the 2010 Outstanding School Business Official and presenting time awards to our membership!

We look forward to seeing you in Pierre!

New Member/Event Management Software

By SDASBO - Wednesday, April 07, 2010 - View Full Newsletter

Dear SDASBO Members:

Our organization is in the early stages of converting our membership management functions to the 21st Century!   We now have access to an online membership (and event) management software developed by BPro, Inc. (Pierre, SD).    The new software is similar to that used by SASD and ASBSD.

We will conduct most of the 2010 Spring Conference functions very similar to as we've done in the past with the exception of registration for the pre-conference Excel workshops on April 27th.   You will receive a separate email with registration instructions.

Check out the new membership/event management software by following these steps:

1.  Go online to www.sdasbo.com

2.  Click on the "Members Login" on the Home page.

3.  Read the on-screen instructions and click on the "Member Management" link.   A new window will launch with the login prompt.

4.  Your default login is your email address for both the Username and Password.  (Repeat in both fields)

5.  After logging in, you can change your Username and/or Password by clicking on the "Admin" link in the green bar at the top of the page.

6.  Click on the "Individuals" button on the left side of the page.   Follow the hyperlink to "edit" if you need to make changes.

7.  The "Districts" button on the left side of the page will display generic membership information for other SDASBO members and certain non-members.

Important Notes:

a.   Only SDASBO information will be sent electronically through this system.

b.   Additional functionality will be evaluated as the needs arise.

c.  If you received this email, but did NOT receive the 2010 Conference Agenda and Registration Form from Bill Lynch last week, you may download both items from the "Archive" section of the SDASBO website.

d.  I will be demonstrating this new software during the Technology Toolbox session in Amphitheatre I on April 28th from 3:30 - 4:30 pm if you have questions.

e.  If you have any technical problems, please email me at jbietz@ysd.k12.sd.us or use the "Feedback" form on the SDASBO website.

f.  If you know of a business official that did not receive this email, please contact me as soon as possible.   The system was pre-loaded with data following the 2009 Spring Conference so some of the newest school business officials may not be in the system.

Hope to see you at the Spring Conference!

SDASBO Website Updates

Friday, March 26, 2010 - View Full Newsletter

SDASBO Website updates:

Added (Spring 2010):

Two new links have been added to the SDASBO website ( www.sdasbo.com ) under the School Lunch tab.

1.  USDA - Food and Nutrition Service - Home

This link will take you to the Food and Nutrition Service Home page within the US Department of Agriculture.

2.  USDA - FNS Regulations & Policy

This link will take you to the Regulations & Policy section of the Food and Nutrition Service website within the US Dept of Agriculture per the December CANS Bulletin (see below):

NUMBERED MEMOS  CHANGE IN PROCEDURE

Child and Adult Nutrition Services has changed the method of distributing policy memos from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). In the past, we would receive a USDA memo and reissue it under our own numbered memo system. USDA posts the memos to their website, eliminating the need to send out another copy. We are ceasing the practice of reissuing the same memo under our own numbered memo system. We may occasionally have our own memos and will continue to post them to the CANS website. We will advise you when a new memo is posted either place that applies to the programs your agency participates in and provide a link to the website. It is your responsibility to read the memo, relay the information to appropriate staff, and implement it at your agency. You should call the CANS office if you have questions about these policies. You can print the memo so you have a paper copy if you wish, or you can maintain a link to the USDA memos in your favorites for future reference. You can also sign up for notices when the USDA web page is updated. The site for legislation, regulations, and policy related to the child nutrition programs is http://www.fns.usda.gov/fns/regulations.htm

The USDA memo code is as follows:
SP applies to School Programs includes National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, and Special Milk Program. This would include Seamless Summer.
CACFP applies to the Child & Adult Care Food Program and may apply to centers, homes, and sponsors or only one section of the group.
SFSP applies to Summer Food Service Program.
The program designation is then followed by the number of the memo for that federal fiscal year and the fiscal year.

Added (Fall 2009):

Links:  Under the School Finance & Initiatives, a link to "School Finance Home" has been added.   This link will redirect you to the School Finance home page as referenced at the Fall Conference including the new Maintenance of Effort worksheets.

Archive:  Handouts and/or presentations have been added under "Fall 2009" including:   The Super Session powerpoint file, a PDF of the Medicaid Admin notes, Deene's capital assets presentation, Hank Koster's parliamentary procedure handouts and Sandra Kangas' powerpoint presentation on new methods of commodity entitlements.

Minutes:  Recent minutes from our business meeting and board of director's meetings.

Your suggestions for additional enhancements are always welcome!
